Did I tell you I hate library on my campus? Oh yeah. Super hate it. No, not because it doesn't have anything. It has super awesome collection of books - old and new. But the thing is - WE CANNOT BRING FREAKING FOODS AND DRINKS INTO THE LIBRARY WHAT IS THIS?
Anyway, last week, I was in the mood to read a book. So I went to the Japanese language section (as expected) and took one book about the Japanese culture. I told myself I never read any weird books so yes, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
Title: Mishima on Hagakure - The Samurai Ethic and Modern Japan (1977)
No. I'm not interested in becoming a samurai in the future. Just curious about samurai people.
One thing I love about this book is that the author told us stories about how old samurai is living his life. And I'll quote one paragraph I like the most from this book.
To Test A Person's True Feelings, Fall Ill.
It is said, "If you want to see into a heart of a friend, fall ill." A person who is friendly to you in good times and turns his back on you like a stranger in times of illness or misfortune is a coward. It is most important when someone has met with ill-fortune, to stay by him, to visit him, and to take him what he needs. A samurai must never as long as he lives, permit himself to be cut off from those to whom he is spiritually indebted. Here is a standard for evaluating a man's true feelings. But most of the time we turn to others for help in times of trouble and forget them entirely when the crisis has passed.
So true in so many ways. I don't even have to explain any further. What makes me love this very part is that, I still remember when I was pretty darn sick, there was someone who brought me home and took a really good care of me. He cooked for me and put a blanket on me. Bring meds to me and so on. I am still indebted. And what I want the most is to be by his side, give him a warm hug and comfort him. I want to return that favor. I'm forever indebted with that person.
/SENDING AN AIRHUG TO YOU.
