My chest felt like it was crushed. The sadness was unbearable. I kid you not! And last time when I broke up with someone, I felt somewhat the same. My chest felt really really hurt!
And then whenever I feel sad lately, I feel my chest burning. Ok, this is new, I thought. But still, it was a physical pain that I felt, right?
So I ask myself, "Why?"
What mechanism makes our chest feel that kind of physical pain? I mean, it's feelings, sadness. How did our brain work?
Then I googled. Yes, I'm a curious person.
terms such as “heartache” and “gut wrenching” are more than mere metaphors: they describe the experience of both physical and emotional pain. When we feel heartache, for example, we are experiencing a blend of emotional stress and the stress-induced sensations in our chest—muscle tightness, increased heart rate, abnormal stomach activity and shortness of breath. In fact, emotional pain involves the same brain regions as physical pain, suggesting the two are inextricably connected.Oh wow. You can read it here for more info. It's interesting. Next time I will try not to hold back and just cry because I want to see if that hurts more or less.
