| A review this time. |
We women in Malaysia are considered lucky to have been born in this peaceful land. I never would have thought I'd be this frustrated or sad after reading one simple novel. It's merely a novel, imo. It's a true story told by one Princess from a royal family, close to the King, who ruled the land of Arab Saudi. This story revolved around the mid 19th century up until the year 2004.
This Princess was named Sultana (real name hidden to protect those of the royal family), and was the youngest daughter of the family. Her childhood memories were full of violence and desperation for her father's love. In Saudi Arabia, women are considered lowly creature exist to serve the men. It's complicated to describe the whole situation but our Holy Quran stated that women are fragile and should be protected. However, those men in Saudi interpreted the verse wrongly and took advantage of those poor women. Basically, women exist to wait for their determined path of fate. They wait to be wedded to the men not of their choices (some women got married right after the first sign of puberty - to a 56 yo men). It's pretty disgusting if you see it from the humanity point of view. They also wed to bear the child of the men they married to. And they also wait for their death to come visit.
Women had no right to speak their mind. They were ruled by their men - their masters. They can't do simple things as travelling (without a man accompanying them) or even driving. I know, these are all Islamic practices written in the Holy Quran itself. But somehow, I got mad at the horrible treatment the Saudi men had given their women, even their family members.
The story is saddening and very heartbreaking my chest hurt at every chapter of the torment faced by these helpless women.
So girls, women, be grateful that you are where you are right now. And I somehow wonder on how 'ruined' our Muslim brothers and sisters are now, including me.
